A customs broker is a person or business that makes certain imports and exports for their clients meet the government trade regulations. But it is not as simple as it sounds; for one, you have to be licensed. Once licensed, then you are regulated and empowered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
You can only imagine the steps we here at Elemar take to ensure our clients’ cargo meets the regulations. From filing the correct paperwork to making the appropriate payments to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, to coding goods, and finally to monitoring each shipment. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, “Brokers must have expertise in the entry procedures, admissibility requirements, classification, valuation, and the rates of duty and applicable taxes and fees for imported merchandise.” Since we are a licensed customs broker, that goes to show that we know what we are doing, now we are one of the approximate 14,454 licensed customs brokers in the whole United States.
